Poem: Western Sunset
A click from the holiday. Sitting on the Cherai beach, I was thinking about the afternoon in Africa, just across the other coast.
Poem: Western Sunset
Gallop, run, jog, walk, trot and amble
How would a slow life resemble
To remember the beauty of the Western sunset
Sitting on the shores of the Arabian Sea,
Thinking of people on the other side
Still slogging in the mid-day African sun
Waves in slow, folding in silvery ripples
A silence turning into a humble roar
Silver dreams crash into white foams
Empty sea shells and dead seaweeds
A mild aroma of the marine beneath and afar
Only here, slaps can bring giggles
And salt water on the face isn’t tears
Fallen bodies eating the humble pieThe pressed, clean grey-violet dusk
Gobbling the mellowed orange, a ripe fruit
A smiling pup on a trot vying for its pie
The sky has finished its evening dish
But for us — fresh dinner delicacies await
It is time for the fun to end.~Ashok Subramanian © 2024
