Poem: Vestiges of Summer

This is not a usual poem exalting the warmth of summer. This time, the summer is blazing…like the last few years. But, we are still to believe and gather our wits.

Inspired by posts of Jacob Berghoef.

Poem: Vestiges of Summer

Retelling a tale of the past summers
The past in its pleasure and sorrows
Bears shadows into the present
The shadows won’t leave –
For the rooted tree or the bird in flight
Yet, the vestiges of shadows
A cool refuge for little lives around
All they need is a morsel of rain
Hope is exhausting under solar assault
No one believes in global warming
Different explanations of the suffering
Forests on fire, cities drowned in flood
The seas with jellyfish and plastic
weighing more than the usual marine
The excretions of human greed everywhere
And technology is the panacea, they say
Greed and fear — the two sides of the same coin
All they have to do is to let go of greed
And just live like the yore, meeting needs
Someday, it will be too late to even talk about it.
