Poem: Understanding Metamorphosis

--

Growth, change, and metamorphosis — who understands this? Whoever sees you will never know your story. So, ignore others, march on, and write your story.

Here is a poem.

Poem: Understanding Metamorphosis

Yesterday, I was -
The ugly, voracious baby
A hairy creature with a thousand legs
Uncouth, unkempt and unwieldy
Too heavy for the mulberry stem

Today, I am —
In a deep, dark chamber
Hanging upside down
A cozy quilt wrapped on
In a vegetative trance

Tomorrow, I will be —
A marvelous creature
With big blue wings
The envy of the kings
Ready to fly in the sky

Yesterday’s gluttony
Today’s slumber
Tomorrow’s flight
Who understands this metamorphosis?
