Poem: Speaking Our Hearts

--

Did the distance and silence really work out? Why couldn’t we just speak our hearts?

Like the stars in a galaxy
In profound constancy
We are drifting apart
Almost paradoxical
The silence between us
That saves us from each other
For our hearts scream
In the high pitch of muted love
To lie near each other
Stare at the stars above or
Watch the speckled white moon.

I turn around and notice -
Your coffee color — profound and
Deeper than my bright chestnut
Just listening to our heartbeats
A slow white cloud floats above
Covering the bright stars for a moment
And leaving that one question behind-
Why didn’t we speak our hearts?
