Here is a fabulous collaboration between Priya and me. Her contribution as the response to my first stanza set the tone for the rest of the poem. Silence, Noise, Whispers, Music, Whistle, and Her Voice… the sounds of solace.

Poem: Sounds of Solace

Silence. Straight banks.
An orderly flow like an army
Not like the river of yesterday
That loved the bridge.

Noise. Winding bends.
Scattered thoughts like ants
Not the love stories of yesterday
I ache for silence. ( contributed by Priya Patel)

Whispers. Unseen breeze.
Caressing effect of laughter
Not the melancholy of longing
Count its presence as a gift.

Music. Decorating time.
Singing along with you
Not the discordant notes
Just the rhythmic divine.

Whistle. The humming hollows.
Happiness leaks in high-frequency
Not the screech of a pressure cooker
A carefree tune floats through.

Voice. Sounds of your harmonics.
An aural version of my existence
The one I missed all these years
Sweet nectar to my ears.
