An inspiring poem — yet we hide behind our verses.

Poem: One Poet to Another ( inspired by Priya Patel)

In the walled garden of poetry
I am the lonely, lost poet
The gardener of solitude
The walls of my garden, are too tall
The chambers of my heart empty
The flower beds await the rains
Yesterday’s blossoms withered
Today’s buds, too tired to blossom
I sit there alone, searching for words
The roof above me, cracked and crumbled

There, from somewhere, up in the sky
A streak of sunshine, and a drop of rain
Strike my heart impetuously
The first sign of celestial contact
It turned out to be heartfully social
Disguised in beautiful verses
From the poet-in-hiding –
Hey, I say — to You.

Here is the inspiring poem, by Priya Patel.

Poem: And so we hide

We have perfected the art
of becoming makeup artists
In life, we make mistakes
and then cover them up
with random acts of good,
we spit out pills
and drink our food;
anything at all to escape the past
We have become experts at doing
everything asked
by burying our scars
deep on the in so on the out,
we heal fast;
hiding in our little shadows
It’s what we do
We plant our smiles
and water our laughter,
nourishing everyone around us
then wallow in tears long after
We are scared of mirrors,
scared we will shatter,
if we see what no one else
thinks really matter,
and so we hide
It’s what we do;
we make everyone else believe…
