Dedicated to my wife. We were engaged on Valentine’s Day 24 years ago. I am on travel, and returning home almost at midnight. This poem is a small gift to her.

Poem: My Valentine

If there was ever a nest
where I could close
my eyes and rest
Your silence embrace

If I — I do imagine
a world of myriad lovers
Like a carefree butterfly
hopping between flowers

All those come to an end
In the warmth that I felt
In the depth of your eyes
My cold heart melts

For the thousand words I speak
I search for one from you
But your words are only a few
and fickle as the morning dew

If I were the sun to your sunflower
I have given you cloudy days
Hiding behind work and travel
Absenting myself in many ways

A world that we created
Has often been empty
Searching solace in solitude
Yet yearning for love

Discovering the lost days
Making good of moments
Left in our last days
Skipping the past torments

The sagacity you have shown
To embrace me as a whole
Even when I broke your heart
And dumped you in a hole

I cherish your benevolent grace
Your love, a blessing from the divine
Gratitude is all I have in my heart
On this day and beyond, my Valentine.
