I saw a post from Chloe Douglas about the sudden passing of Hennie Dijkhuizen, an artist par excellence. I write this poem as a tribute to her, I know little about her, but her artwork ‘Dream of a Horse’ says a lot. My eulogy has the same title.

Rest in peace, Hennie Dijkhuizen.

Poem: Dream of a Horse

Life was a game of chess
It was all about the moves
But I hopped, skipped, and jumped
Forget, I danced through it
All the sixty-four squares
Some dark as them black
Some bright as them white
All wearing my cherubic shoes
Sometimes planting my stilettos
Then tiptoeing a twiddle
Wearing my colorful candor
And galloping like a horse
The wind beneath my mane
Eyes bright and wide
No blinders ever
Quirky is who I am
The one who chose to dream.

Just ahead of me, I see
A couple of steps anew
The red carpet, all laid out
I shall go on and forward
Dancing and dreaming
Hop, skip, and jump
A journey to upstairs
My life is now behind me
The path of my dreams.
