Oh! How I loved her — only to realize that I was dealing with masks and reflections, like smoke and mirrors.

Poem: CHOCOLATE MOON

There was never a fuller moon-
Than your face when you smile
The little scar and cute dimple
Soaked in that chocolate smile

The beauty of that moment
Trapped in my memories
Frozen in time and after that
Time did not exist ever.

Till –
You uttered those words
Like a leather boot
on crunchy gravel
Crushed yet protesting
Turned me numbing and inert

My heart salami sliced
Bleeding through
A thousand cuts
Love oozes out slowly
In puddles of life

I still see two of mine
Almond soaked images
Floating in your eyes
If mirrors just reflect
But don’t they have a soul
Or heartbeats beneath
But then… I will never know.

So-
I put on my mask
That smile, quiet a task
A glistening chocolate cover
Wrapping my wounds
That twisted smile on my lips
And you smile back
As if you understand.
