Poem: Caterpillar in a Cocoon

Poem: CATERPILLAR IN A COCOON

What it takes to be a caterpillar in a cocoon?

A walk along the garden
The red oxide tiles glisten
Wet remnants of
the overnight rain

Shiny green kitchens
Churning food -
For those rooted
on the ground

Somebody sub-rents
the little green kitchen
to that fat little worm
that is growing double
every little day
eating off the food there

A thick blanket first
Wrapped around
Now like a sleeping bag
Or a cozy winter home
with no wiggle room
a wormy Rip-Wan-Winkle

Some days will pass
Seasons will perhaps change
But we hope something -
bright and beautiful
will come out of
chubby chrysalis.
