Poem: About Poetry

--

I was watching this video by Ethan Hawke. Some words of this video are borrowed in my poem, but it made sense to write the poems still because the words resonated in me, and flowed, and eventually different, but still carried the same message.

Poem: ABOUT POETRY

Poetry is art.

For a poet, poetry is

neither luxury nor a hobby.

They are not mere words.

For a poet,

his words bare his soul,

and rip his heart.

Those are pictures of joy and sorrow,

of imagination and introspection,

of facts and fiction.

For the uninitiated

Poetry is not luxury

when you need it.

When you are grasping

for the last straw

clutching at life;

When everything is lost

and only your bare soul remains,

Poetry is your only sustenance.
