Shakespeare and Shahjahan. The Bard and the Emperor. Yet, they left immortal artifacts of love. What about me? I can, my dear, write a simple song of love.

Poem: A SIMPLE SONG OF LOVE

Love, my dear, of mine, is not Shakespearean
Not that complex weave of Romeo and Juliet
Nor the story of the venerated marble tomb
Where lovers are buried, but love is immortal
In a world of myriad verses, mine is lost
Yet I dare to write this simple song of love.

Locked deep inside and the key lost since
Love, my dear, of mine, like a birdie in a cage
This fluttering heart of mine lives in hope
I don’t want the liberation of death
Just a life forever, with the incarcerated love
Immortality, my dear, trapped between heartbeats.

If you wonder where you are in all these
Soaked in the warmth of my heart
Dancing to the rhythm of its beats
Pervading my every nerve and sinew-
Everywhere, my dear is my Taj Mahal
In this simple Shakespearean song of love.
