Poem: A Reason for this Season
Oh, I hear this a lot. And here is my reason for this season. Merry Christmas, folks. (again.)
Poem: A REASON FOR THIS SEASON
Merry Christmas Everyone.
The world needs festivals, togetherness, and joy.
After a year full of happenings
We need the rest and joy.
Even, the colors take a break.
The white of the snow means something.
The evergreen conifer stands are decorated
The silver and red balls, and the stars
A white-bearded old man in winter red
A little thing that the kids look for —
Well, this could be a contrived convenience
Of commercializing the winter solstice
Think for once —
Remove the Santa, the tree, and the colors
All we have —
The grey skies and unending white earth
Colorless somber, silent solitude
Add them back —
We have the togetherness, the joy, and the colors
The goodness of them all and the hope-
The magic of the humans thus far unseen
When the white thaws to spritely green
That is the reason for this season, my friends
Make good of it all before the year ends
Merry Christmas, again.~Ashok Subramanian © 2024
