Today I turn 50. A journey that started five decades ago, comes to a pause today. I am alive and present. It is the biggest gift to myself.

Poem: A Day to Pause

One of the big days in my life.

A day I know for sure
That I have traveled more than
I have to travel
A day to pause and ponder
Some journey this —
The past dissolves in my sigh
And memories float in my smile
My ancestors are all up there
Still, I am discovering the kid in me
I am where I should be

Listening to the relentless
Cooing of the mynah
Raspy caws of the raven
A whiff of a breeze floating
Caressing me with warm love
A blue sky that I live under

My heart brims and overflows
All the love I can get
Sometimes thirty years don’t matter
Captured in my words for eternity
I breathe, I smile and I exist
If this is my universe
As I see through my conscience
I must be therefore I am —
Grateful, present, and happy
